Adjust Shadow Curves to Get Shadow Editing

February 9, 2010 in Adjust by David Schloss 0 comments

The Curves tool is probably my favorite in Aperture 3, enabling quick-and-easy adjustment of images using a (familiar to Photoshop users) linear curve is a great way to make precise adjustments. But even those familiar with a curve interface will be pleased with the Extended and Shadow tools in Curves. We’ve already looked at the Extended setting, now let’s look at Shadow.

Select Curves

From the Adjustments drop-down, select Curves.

Select Shadows

From the Range: dropdown, select Shadows, which will change the Curves display as shown here and will focus in on the shadow area of the curve. This will allow you to adjust points with much greater granularity as the full curve tool is focused in on the lower end of the range.
