Books: Controlling Typography in Aperture 3

June 3, 2010 in Organize by Thomas Boyd 1 comment

Aperture 3 provides some powerful tools for changing text in the book mode. Here’s an overview.

Command-T for the Fonts Window

From here you can choose a new font, change the Font, Size, Style, Alignment, Line Spacing, Kerning, Baseline, and Outline.

I’ve selected the type and, in this case, chose Savoy LET, Plain, at 48 pt.

Kerning

Most of the typographical controls we’ve been using in the most basic text editors, but kerning isn’t always included in word processing programs. Kerning refers to the space between the letters in a word. By tightening and loosing the kerning, the look of the type can change dramatically. Above is a before and after with two clicks of tightened kerning.

Baseline

Baseline is also a spacing control but it changes the spacing between lines of text.
